How to clean oil and coolant residue before curved-glass hot bending?
Pre-bending cleaning must remove machining oils and coolant residue; otherwise they convert into pits, haze and mold contamination in the hot zone. L18S is a medium-strong alkaline aqueous system that handles both in one step.
1Why pre-bending cleaning is critical
Hot bending is a high-temperature forming step: oils and coolant left on the part decompose and carbonise, transferring to both the mold and the glass as pits, haze and local gloss loss, and fouling the mold for subsequent parts. Such defects occur after the hot zone and cannot be fixed downstream.
2L18S route and use
L18S is a medium-strong alkaline aqueous system for pre-bending cleaning, designed to handle oil and coolant removal in a single step instead of switching chemistries between operations. Confirm concentration, temperature and time for your line, then rinse and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks entering the furnace.
3Integration with adjacent steps
Select pre-bending and post-bending/post-coating cleaning separately: pre-bending focuses on oil and coolant (medium-strong alkali is fine), whereas post-coating parts cannot take hot strong alkali and need a neutral system such as ZL-001. Using one chemistry for both steps is a common mistake.
