OCA Display Rework: Swell-peel & Substrate Protection

OCA is mostly acrylic/silicone; rework uses swelling to weaken adhesion, and temperature/soak time are the key to substrate safety.

1OCA characteristics

OCA is a >90% transmissive adhesive film between release liners, available with or without a PET carrier. Acrylic bonds strongly to glass/ITO; silicone offers better weatherability and lower modulus. It is UV- or heat-cured and widely used in touch and full lamination.

2Swell-peel rework

Soak the defective part at room temperature (or gentle 40°C) in stripper so the solvent swells the OCA and weakens the bond, then peel in one piece. Ultrasonics shortens the time; thin layers release faster, thick layers need longer. Lift a corner to judge swelling before adding heat.

3Protecting the substrate

Coatings and functional layers fear strong alkali and long soak: the polarizer's TAC layer can be damaged or discolored by prolonged (especially hot) immersion, and touch ITO is acid/alkali-sensitive. Use a stripper that is AF- and ITO-safe, control temperature and time, and rinse promptly with alcohol or DI water.
